Jamaica Premier League’s Montego Bay United FC (MBU) has signed a $12-million sponsorship deal with hometown brand, Caribbean Producers Jamaica (CPJ), the team announced.

During the presentation at the Montego Bay Sports Complex on Wednesday, Yoni Epstein, chairman of MBU, said the CPJ sponsorship is celebrated for its local relevance and community support.

“As they say, hometown team, hometown brand. CPJ is less than a mile away from the club. It has been an opportunity we have been working on for several years, I am happy to see it come to fruition,” said Epstein.

“It is a perfect opportunity for them to be closer to the community and support the number one team in Western Jamaica. Also, supporting the communities we live in,” he added.

The sponsorship will last three seasons at $4 million dollars per season.

Kemmar Lewis, head of marketing at CPJ, said the Montego Bay-based company sees this as an opportunity to align with the growing trend of premium brands in sports.

“We have been acquired by Seprod, AS Bryden particularly. It's an opportunity for us to show that speed and that commitment to community that Seprod has always embodied. We want to show that as well as CPJ,” said Lewis.

The Jamaica Premier League season officially started on Sunday. In MBU’s opening match, they drew 2-2 with last season’s finalist, Mount Pleasant Academy.

MBU is scheduled to play on Sunday, August 31, at the Montego Bay Sports Complex against returning team Treasure Beach Football Club.
