Monument unveiled in San Ignacio/Santa Elena in honor of past mayors 

The San Ignacio & Santa Elena Town Council has unveiled a new monument honouring the past mayors who helped shape the twin towns over the years. The stone monument was officially unveiled today under the leadership of Mayor Earl Trapp Jr. and is intended to preserve the legacy of the men and women who carried the responsibility of local government during earlier periods of the towns’ development.  Area Representative for Cayo Northeast, Orlando Habet, spoke on the importance of recognizing those who laid the groundwork for the continued growth of San Ignacio and Santa Elena.

Mayor Trapp says the monument is more than a display of names; it is a reminder that the twin towns’ present progress rests on the work and sacrifices of those who served before. He also announced that his administration will work to name local streets after each past mayor, ensuring their contributions remain part of the community’s everyday life.

Among those recognised was former Mayor Don Hector Silva, who served the twin towns several decades ago. Silva reflected on his time in office and welcomed the decision to formally honour the leaders who gave their service to the community.  The monument was erected on the council’s compound./
