‘More compassion needed from those treating the sick’—Trinidad Youth Council

The Trinidad Youth Council is calling for a more caring health system following the death of six-year-old Jasher Francois at the San Fernando Teaching Hospital.

As the world marks International Youth Day today (August 12), the TYC says Jasher’s death underscores “the urgent need to better safeguard the nation’s youth.”

According to the Council, the child’s death has revealed what it calls “a heartbreaking lack of compassion and care from those entrusted with treating the sick.”

The TYC stressed that “no amount of technological advancement or increased resources can replace compassion in health care.”

A second autopsy on Jasher Francois has suggested that an adverse reaction to medication administered intravenously caused his death.

The Ministry of Health has appointed a committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.  The Committee has been instructed to submit their report by August 20, 2025.
