Morgan: IC Shouldn’t Overlook Roneiph Lawrence Antecedents

4 months ago 41

Government senator, Marlon Morgan, says the Integrity Commission should not overlook the concerns raised by the government regarding the antecedents of Roneiph Lawrence and his selection as acting-director of corruption prosecution.

He was speaking on Nationwide at Five on Monday.

Last Friday, leader of government business in the house, Edmund Bartlett, and leader of government business in the Senate, Kamina Johnson Smith, voiced misgivings about the selection of Lawrence.

The senior parliamentarians made their displeasure known in a letter to IC chairman, retired Justice Carol Lawrence Beswick.

Bartlett and Johnson Smith noted that Lawrence’s 20-year friendship with People’s National Party general secretary, Dr. Dayton Campbell, calls into question the decisions he will take regarding members of the political fraternity.

But in a response on Monday, Justice Lawrence Beswick said she needed more information to address the concerns.

Senator Morgan says Lawrence’s affiliation with Dr. Campbell needs to be addressed by the IC chairman.
