Superheroes, The King of Pop, and a handful of dual performances. Here are some of the most exciting cinema releases to come in 2025.

1. One of Them Days — Two best friends, Dreux and Alyssa, go on a quest to pay their rent after having their funds stolen by Alyssa’s deadbeat boyfriend. It’s a relatable comedy and the dynamic duo of Keke Palmer and SZA promises to be a memorable one.

2. Captain America: Brave New World — Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers passes the mantle of Captain America to Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson. No longer The Falcon, the new Captain America will have his title tested, fighting a conspiracy, an international crisis, and a red hulk.

3. Mickey 17 — Robert Pattinson will be gracing cinemas more than ever before in 2025. This sci-fi epic from Parasite director Bong Joon-ho sees Pattinson taking on the ambitious task of playing against himself as the clones of one desperate individual.

4. Sinners — Ryan Coogler once again teams up with Creed’s Michael B. Jordan for a gothic period piece. A vampire movie, Jordan will play twin brothers taking the fight to creatures of the night to save their home town.

5. Mission Impossible The Final Reckoning — The supposed final chapter of the Mission Impossible saga will grace cinemas this year and promises to deliver the expected quality of action for the series, and some close calls for Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt.

6. Elio — Pixar’s newest film takes a look at a young boy whose loneliness sends him on a trip to outer space. The creative team of Domee Shi ( Turning Red) and first-time feature director Madeline Sharafian is sure to leave not a dry eye in the house.

7. Superman — There have been some incredible superhero movies in recent years, but Superman’s presence has been missed. An impressive first trailer broke records, and with director James Gunn at the helm, there are high hopes for Superman’s return.

8. Fantastic Four: First Steps — Marvel’s first family returns to cinemas with some fresh new faces, with Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Mr Fantastic, The Invisible Woman, The Human Torch, and The Thing, for a new generation.

9. Michael — The king of pop gets his due on the big screen. With a portrayal from his nephew, Jaafar Jackson, the story of Michael Jackson is sure to bring in audiences around the globe, especially with Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson in tow.

10. Wicked: For Good — The stirring conclusion to the musical event of 2023. The story of Galinda and Elphaba will come to a close in a manner that’s sure to be as emotional and epic as the first film. Prepare for the songs to be stuck in your head next November.

11. Avatar Fire and Ash — James Cameron’s sci-fi saga continues with its third film. Jake Sully and family continue their fight to protect their home, Pandora. The new film explores an entirely new tribe and an environment that’s sure to be a visual marvel.
