Motorcyclist Killed in Collision With Passenger Bus on George Price Highway

A 55-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a passenger bus on the George Price Highway on Saturday night. The incident happened shortly after seven o’clock near Mile 76.  Police identified the deceased as Patrick Joseph Chun of Duck Run Village, Cayo District.  ASP Stacy Smith explains what investigators have established so far.

ASP Stacy Smith, Belize Police Department: “Police are investing a road traffic accident which led to the death of 23 year old Elvin Chub, a Belize Defence Force volunteer soldier from Maya Mopan Village. The investigation commenced on Sunday 23 August  2026 at around 2:30pm when police were advised of a collision in the vicinity of Silk Grass Village involving a motorcycle an SUV and a delivery truck. The investigators responded and upon their arrival they observed a gravely injury male person and a motorcycle was partially lodged under the damaged front bumper of the SUV. Also observed was the damaged delivery truck which showed sign of damage to the rear. The circumstance of the collision remains under investigation and police have issued a notice of intended prosecution to the driver of the SUV.”

Love News understands that 57-year-old Marcus Santos was driving the bus from San Ignacio toward Benque Viejo when Chun reportedly attempted to overtake a vehicle travelling in the same direction. Chun allegedly lost control of his motorcycle, swerved into the opposite lane and collided with the driver’s side of the bus.  Chun sustained severe head and body injuries and died at the scene. His body was transported to the Western Regional Hospital morgue.  The bus has been impounded for inspection.
