MOUNT PLEASANT Academy’s head coach, Theodore Whitmore, says his team will be taking it game by game after the St Ann-based club secured another win in the 2024-25 Jamaica Premier League yesterday.
In a thrilling encounter, Mount Pleasant blanked Montego Bay United (MBU) 2-0 at Drax Hall Sports Complex. The win pushed them to 87 points from 36 games. They are 15 points clear of second-place MBU who have played 37 games. Arnett Gardens are third on 67, while Portmore are fourth with 63.
“It is always the next one. This game is done and dusted, so we have to look forward to the next one,” Whitmore said.
The Mount Pleasant head coach said the first half of yesterday’s match was flat, but their objectives were met in the second half.
“We found it difficult to find our rhythm, but the second half picked up and we were free flowing. We scored two goals and kept a clean sheet this afternoon,” Whitmore said.
The excitement began in the second half of a game watched by a jam-packed Easter Sunday crowd which included sprint legend Usain Bolt.
Nicholas Nelson struck nine minutes after the break and, in the 66th minute, Raheem Edwards completed the scoring for the home team.
MBU coach Paul ‘Tegat’ Davis said they will be aiming to maintain their spot in the play-off places.
“We are not thinking or worried about it (preliminary round position), we are just taking it game by game. Whether we come second or in the qualifying round, it doesn’t matter. We are going to fight until the last two games,” Davis said.
“What we did in the second half was poor. We opened the middle and let them come in and take over the game. It was not like they were super better than us,” he added.
