Mount Pleasant’s Foster says team is ready for away game

MOUNT PLEASANT Football Academy goalkeeper Kemar Foster says the team is fully prepared to deliver a strong performance in today’s Concacaf Caribbean Cup Group A showdown against Moca FC, the host club in the Dominican Republic. Match time is 7 p.m. (Jamaica time). The game will be Moca’s first match in the five-team group competition.

Mount Pleasant, who share top spot in the group with Universidad O&M on three points, are coming off a hard-fought 1-0 win over SV Robinhood of Suriname last Tuesday at the National Stadium in Kingston.

Foster, who joined the St Ann-based club from Waterhouse at the end of last season, said the mood in the camp is positive as they look to strengthen their grip on the group.

“I am not sure if I am going to be between the sticks, but I am just here preparing myself for whenever the team calls upon me. I will be there,” he explained.

“Otherwise, I think we are ready to go out there and win the game. The preparations have been going quite well, everybody is enjoying every single moment of it, and we are quite focused on the game.”

Best foot forward

The national goalkeeper acknowledged the importance of the encounter, noting that the players are approaching it with focus and determination.

“We know that it is a decider game with us at the top of the table, so we have to go out there, put our best foot forward, and come out with the victory,” Foster said.

“Quite frankly, we don’t know much about this team, and, therefore, we are going into the game a little bit blind.

“We have to assess for the first couple of minutes what they are doing and then try to adjust. As players, we have to stay focused, recognise what they are doing, and see how we can stop them and also get the three points – and that is most important for this game,” he added.

‘Tough competition’

Foster, who started in Mount Pleasant’s opening 2-2 draw against Montego Bay United in the Jamaica Premier League on Sunday, said the squad has been putting in the necessary work to cope with the demands of regional competition.

“To be honest, every competition is tough competition because we are playing against the best teams across the Caribbean. So it is just an opportunity for us to go out there and perform for ourselves, for our families, and also for our team,” he said.

“We just have to stay focused, pull ourselves together, and get the victory.”

The 32-year-old Foster believes that joining Mount Pleasant has been a good step for his career and credited the club’s coaching staff for their guidance.

“Things have been good so far, but you know that in every institution, you will have your ups and downs,” he said.

“I just have to stay focused and put God first because I have been working very hard.”

“I just have to work on my craft as much as possible. We have some of the best coaches in the Caribbean, and so we just have to believe and trust them,” Foster said.
