Mr Eazi Returns to His Roots with New Project Maison Rouge: “I’m not in a rush to get to that next phase.”

2025 marks a turning point in Mr Eazi’s personal life: mourning his mother’s passing in March, while marrying his longtime partner Temi Otedola, the daughter of Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote in a high-profile Nigerian wedding held in  three countries. The duality of grief and gratitude informs every note of Maison Rouge.

“I lost my first love, my mom, and then I committed to the love of my life as well,” he said. “Facing those two major events have made me pause… I’m not in a rush to get to that next phase.”

Mr Eazi’s new project Maison Rouge is less about reinvention and more about reflection — a calm in the creative storm. Eazi’s message to himself, and his listeners, is simple: savor the moment.

After years of sonic evolution and international experimentation, the Nigerian star revisits the warmth of his early “banku music” sound with his new seven-track project Maison Rouge. The title, inspired by the Cotonou residence in Benin Republic where it was recorded, frames the project as a creative reset — intimate, reflective, and unhurried.

Produced primarily by P.Priime, E Kelly, TMXO, Kel P, and Selebobo, the EP features smooth percussion, bright guitar riffs, and tender, heartfelt songwriting. It’s a sonic palette that recalls Eazi’s breakthrough records like “Skintight” and “Bankulize” — but this time, there’s an emotional maturity that comes from growth and grief.

“I’M NO LONGER SCARED OF BOREDOM”

Speaking with OkayAfrica, Eazi described Maison Rouge as a moment of peace — a departure from the constant motion that once defined him.

“One of my superpowers is boredom,” he said. “I really get bored very quickly and, as such, I’m always trying to move to the next one.”

That restless spirit birthed classics and collaborations with the likes of Nicki Minaj and Bad Bunny, but it also led to burnout. Now, he’s learning to appreciate stillness.

“In the past, my relationship with the past was more animosity. I didn’t like the past… The difference now is that I don’t have that love-hate with the past and I don’t have that impatience with the future.”

“It was the first time I had to face that feeling — when you think your parents are untouchable,” Eazi shared. “While waiting for the doctor, I went into the studio to pour out that feeling.”
