Homicide detectives say they are still piecing together the motive behind the shooting death of Mt Hope businesswoman, Makeda Swift.

Police reported that sometime after 11 pm last night, 40-year-old Swift, of Tinto Lane, St Joseph, was shot and later taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex where she was declared dead.

Police suspect the shooting was linked to a carjacking outside her business—Sade Body and Sole Nail Salon, located along the Eastern Main Road in St Joseph.

Swift is the daughter of Rastafarian DJ Brian “Nyahbinghi” De Four.

An official statement from De Four’s camp stated:

“It is with deep sadness that we announce the tragic passing of Nyahbinghi’s daughter, who was shot and killed by bandits on Friday night (August 22, 2025) at his Cultural Store on Eastern Main Road, Champ Fleurs.”

“As a result of this devastating incident, both Club Amazon TT and Nyahbinghi’s Cultural Centre will remain closed until further notice,” the statement said.

It added: “We urge anyone with information regarding this heinous act to immediately contact the nearest police station. Thank you for your understanding and support during this difficult time.”
