Murder Case Against Two Men Discontinued After Key Witness Cannot Be Found

The murder case stemming from the 2022 killing of Winston Joseph James, known as “Tanga,” has been discontinued for now. The prosecution entered a nolle prosequi this morning against Azzane Domingo and Eustace Lewis, and both men were released.  Their trial had been expected to begin last Thursday, but Justice Candace Nanton gave the prosecution more time to locate a key witness, Shemaud Nunez, known as “Sabe.” Police continued searching over the weekend but were unable to find him. The case returned to court this morning, when the prosecution formally discontinued it.  James was shot and killed on January 21, 2022, while driving with his then girlfriend, Marybeth Wade. Wade was also injured in the attack. Domingo had faced a murder charge and charges connected to the attack on Wade. Lewis had been charged with abetment to murder.  A nolle prosequi is not an acquittal. The prosecution can bring charges again if it has the evidence to proceed.
