Murder Trial Delayed as Prosecutors Search for Key Witness

The murder trial of two men accused of killing Winston Joseph James, known as “Tanga,” has been delayed because prosecutors cannot locate a key witness.  The trial of 23-year-old Azzane Domingo, and 36-year-old Eustace Lewis, was scheduled to begin this week. In the High Court on Thursday, Crown counsel asked for more time, telling Justice Candace Nanton that police were still searching for a witness considered essential to the case.  Defence attorneys Leeroy Banner and Ellis Arnold expressed concern about the delay but did not object to one more adjournment. Attorney Norman Rodriguez spoke about what the missing witness could mean for the trial.

Justice Nanton granted the adjournment until Tuesday, September 29. Prosecutors told the court that additional officers would assist in the search over the weekend.  James was shot and killed on January 21, 2022, while driving with Marybeth Wade. Domingo and Lewis were charged in 2024 and now face a joint murder indictment. The allegations against them have not been proven in court.
