Muschett’s Smythe clocks PB at Sprint Fest 100m

FIRST-YEAR Class One athlete Johan-Ramaldo Smythe of Muschett High was the standout performer at yesterday’s Sprint Fest 100 metres meet at GC College.

Smythe ran a personal best (PB) 10.47 seconds to lower his previous best of 10.49 which he set at the National Junior Championships last year.

“I am very excited and I am proud of myself,” said Smythe who stated that he was not surprised as he has been working very hard. Yesterday’s 100m was his second of the season.

His father and head coach at Muschett, Garth Smythe, said he was happy with his son’s run.

“I am happy for him and I expect him to go much faster once he remains healthy,” he stated

Excelsior High’s Riquelme Reid and Malike Nugent were second and third best in the Class One 100m after winning their respective heats in 10.55 and 10.59, respectively.

Michael Cohen of Excelsior ruled supreme in Class Two after stopping the clock at 10.98, the same time as Sebastine Ellis of William Knibb with St Jago High’s Ray-J Reece third in 11.02.

Amorii Rayon Walker of St George’s College was fastest in Class Three in a personal best 11. 34. Kingston College’s Emile Higgins (11.36) and Andre Genus (11.45) ended second and third respectively.

Muschett picked up another win as Oleisha Headley topped the field in Class Four 100m winning in a personal best 12.58. Merl Grove High’s Salonice Graham took second in 12.85 and it was personal best for Yandi Dennis of St Jago who was third in 12.90.

St Jago took the first two places in Class Three. Trecia Ann Grant clocked 12.16 for the win, ahead of teammate Martina Parkes, second in 12.21. Xiah Tobias of Vere Technical was third in 12.34.

Vere were on top in Classes Two and One. Peta Gaye Forrester clocked a personal best 11.85 to win in Class Two ahead of teammate Kijanna Lee who was second in 12.30. Janella Cairns of St Jago was third in 12.36.

Breanna Wilson’s winning time in Class One was 11.92. Shakira Rhoden of Excelsior was second in 12.14 while Cheyenne Bennett of St Jago took third spot in a personal best 12.36.
