National Bus Company Introduces Formal Package Service

Also coming out of the NBC presser yesterday, was the news of the introduction of a formal package desk to organize the transportation of parcels along its routes. The service is intended to bring greater accountability to a practice that, for years, has largely been handled directly by bus drivers and conductors.  While James Bus Line operated an established package system, arrangements on other services were often informal, without tracking features or documented payments. The NBC’s move seeks to put package handling under a structured company service. Special Projects Officer Louis Verde explained how the package desk will operate.

Luis Verde, Special Projects Officer: “The whatsapp also assists with what is packaging which as we know in Belize we don’t have a very efficient packaging system or routes, they take long for example if I go to BPMS right now and try to send a package it won’t arrive until tomorrow or possibly the day after. That’s the beauty of NBC, we have buses leaving every hour on the hour. Again because the API’s are being shared when you get your package number you can put that in there and what it’s going to do is give you a snippet I think you all have seen the image that was running before of the map where you see the buses coming and going. What this will do is send you a snapshot of where on the moment that you put in your tracking where the bus is, so then you would know more or less okay it’s still in Belmopan, it’s on its way to San Ignacio and then with that you would know. Whenever the package has been scanned in our terminals then it’s going to notify the person. Mr. Codd has sent your package and it is now at the terminal please proceed with picking it up. Whenever that package is given over to the person it’s scanned again and when that is finished scanning it sends it to the sender to notify that the person has picked it up. So that way you have full accountability of your packages throughout the whole process.”
