Susana Vanzie has officially stepped down as Chief Executive Officer of the National Bus Company, just days after Minister of Transportation Dr. Louis Zabaneh publicly confirmed that changes were imminent within the management structure of the NBC. The announcement came today through an official press release issued by the National Bus Company, which thanked Vanzie for her leadership and service during the company’s initial three-month transition period. While the release did not disclose specific reasons for her departure, it acknowledged her role in helping guide the company through its startup phase following the launch of the NBC earlier this year. The development follows comments made by Minister Zabaneh on Friday, May 15, when he explained that all personnel brought into the NBC at its inception were operating under temporary three-month contracts that are now nearing expiration.

Dr. Louis Zabaneh, Minister of Transport: “Everybody that was hired on March 1st it’s a three-month contract that they have. Everybody came on in a temporary position / status. And because some of them said that they’re coming in to assist because they have a passion for seeing the success of this entity, others came on with an interest to be performing and going for longer term. So that’s coming to an end the end of this month. So we now need to look at those people who said that they were here just temporarily and replace them and then have more permanent arrangements with those who are gonna stay for the longer term.”
Today’s announcement also comes as the National Bus Company publicly launched its search for a new Chief Executive Officer. A recruitment notice circulated this afternoon outlines that the company is seeking a candidate with extensive senior management experience in transportation, logistics, infrastructure, or related large-scale operations. Applicants are also being asked to possess strong backgrounds in organizational transformation, financial management, and corporate governance as the NBC continues its push toward modernizing Belize’s public transportation network. In today’s release, the NBC assured commuters, staff, and stakeholders that the company’s operations across the country would continue uninterrupted as the organization moves forward with its transportation modernization plans. The release further noted that Vanzie remains a shareholder in the National Bus Company through Floralia’s investment into the entity
