National Celebrations Commission Awards Grants to Support September Events

The National Celebrations Commission (NCC) gave out grants today to city and town councils across the country to support their events for the September celebrations. All nine councils received $15,000 each at a ceremony held at the Bliss Center for the Performing Arts this afternoon. It’s an annual tradition that receives additional support due to the 50th anniversary of Carnival being celebrated this year. Chairman of the NCC, Minister of Culture Francis Fonseca, says that the grants come at a time when there is an increasing demand for support of celebration events countrywide.

We caught up with some of the municipal leaders today to hear what their residents can expect for celebrations this September in their cities and towns.

Last month the NCC also provided the Belize Carnival Association with $45,000 to support several initiatives marking the golden anniversary of Carnival.
