National Ozone Unit Offers 12 Full Scholarships for Refrigeration Training

Twelve Belizeans will receive full scholarships to pursue training in refrigeration and air conditioning during the 2026–2027 academic year.  The scholarships are being offered by the National Ozone Unit within the Department of the Environment for a one-year programme at participating ITVET institutions.  The initiative is intended to build a skilled workforce capable of safely servicing newer, climate-friendly refrigeration systems as Belize reduces its use of refrigerants that damage the ozone layer and contribute to climate change.  Each scholarship covers full tuition, testing and certification fees, personal protective equipment and the essential tools required for refrigeration and air-conditioning work.  Applicants must be Belizean citizens or permanent residents who have been accepted into, or are eligible for admission to, the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning programme at a participating ITVET. They must also demonstrate genuine interest in the field and commit to completing the full twelve-month programme.  The Department of the Environment is strongly encouraging women to apply. At least four of the twelve scholarships will be awarded to qualified female applicants, as part of an effort to increase women’s participation in the traditionally male-dominated trade.  Scholarship recipients will be required to maintain satisfactory academic progress, demonstrate good character and discipline, and comply with the policies of their training institution.  The application deadline is Friday, September 4.
