Parliament passed nearly 100 pieces of legislation over the life of the current term.

That’s according to data provided by Gordon House to Nationwide News.

The data show that up to the parliamentary recess earlier this month, ninety-nine Acts completed their journey through the legislative process.

Chevon Campbell tells us more.

With lawmakers now on summer recess and a general election looming, it’s expected the Prime Minister will soon advise the Governor General to end the life of the current parliament.

The dissolution, along with expectations the election may be called before September, would see a fresh legislative term when the Houses of Parliament next convene.

This would effectively bring an end to the current term, which began on September 15, 2020.

Over that period, Gordon House either passed or amended 99 laws.

Seventeen laws were passed in 2020, with the highlight being the Data Protection Act.

Enacted in June of that year, the Act is a framework designed to safeguard personal data and privacy rights.

The year 2021 saw the most pieces of legislation either passed or amended, 24.

Highlights included amendments to the Road Traffic Act and the country’s anti-gang legislation.

Twelve acts were passed in 2022, including the repeal and replacement of the Firearms Act.

The year 2023 saw an additional seventeen legislative items passed into law, such as amendments to the Child Care and Protection Act and the repeal and replacement of the Bail Act.

Thirteen more acts were passed in 2024, while 8 were passed in 2025.

The ninety-nine Acts passed over the near five-year period is one less than the one hundred passed under the previous term, which began on March 10, 2016.

Meanwhile, legislators held five hundred and seventy committee meetings between 2021 and July 15, 2025.

2021 was the busiest year for Gordon House in terms of committee meetings, where 194 were held.
