Nearly 300 Youth Cadets Gather for National Police Youth Cadet Corps Summer Programme

Almost three hundred young police cadets from across Belize are participating in the twenty-seventh Annual National Police Youth Cadet Corps Summer Programme in Dangriga.  On the programme’s second day, 279 cadets gathered at Ecumenical High School for activities combining personal development, public education, culture and sports. Community Policing officers led rotating sessions on anger management, effective communication and the importance of understanding the communities in which the cadets live.  The participants also visited interactive educational booths hosted by the National Drug Abuse Control Council, the Ministry of Rural Transformation and the Department of Youth Services. The presentations provided information on drug prevention, youth development and community responsibility.  The Hanigi Cultural Dance Group later led a practical dance session, giving the young participants an opportunity to connect with Belizean culture through music and movement.  The afternoon featured a volleyball tournament involving teams from the country’s four policing regions. The Eastern Region captured first place after winning two of three sets. The Northern Region finished second, followed by the Southern Region in third and the Western Region in fourth.  The day concluded with cultural presentations from the various precincts, allowing the cadets to showcase their creativity and talents.  The annual summer programme is designed to promote discipline, teamwork, leadership and responsible citizenship while strengthening relationships among young people from different parts of Belize.
