One of the swimmers to watch at the March 21-22 Mayberry High Performance Swim Classic will be Nelson Denny of Kingston Online Learning.

The 6’3 athlete who will be heading to Howard University this September will put his undefeated record on the line in the 100 metre freestyle.

Denny has not lost this race in either school or club competition this season.

He recorded wins in the 17 and over category with times of 57.30 seconds at the ISSA meet and 56.79 seconds at the Aquatic Sports Association of Jamaica, ASAJ, meet.

At the Mayberry meet he will be looking to break the 2022 record of 53.99 seconds set by Campion College’s Nathaniel Thomas and the overall high school record of 52.39 seconds set by Nathaniel Thomas in 2023 at the ASAJ meet.

Denny recorded a season best of 53.25 at the Walter Rogers Age group championships. He is also entered in the 50 metre backstroke.

His season best is 27.73 seconds and the meet record of 27.61 seconds set by Nathaniel Thomas in 2023.

The overall school record is held by Thomas at 27.17 seconds from the 2023 ASAJ meet.

Meanwhile, Immaculate Conception’s 12 and under relay team will be chasing the 200 metres freestyle relay record.

They will be looking to be the first team to go under two minutes in the event for that age group.

The team of Addison Thomas, Mia Reid, Leigh -Paige Phillips and Layla Reid set the ASAJ meet record in February with a time of 2:02.98 and the fastest ever high school time for that age group with a swim of 2:01.46.

The Mayberry meet records stands at 2:03.25.

They are aiming to finish the season undefeated and having broken the meet record at every meet. They have a similar outstanding record in the 200 metre medley relay.
