The Government of Belize has announced new controlled prices for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) which took effect today, March 11. According to the Supplies Control Unit in the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and New Growth Industries, the updated pricing structure reflects the sale of LPG by wholesale volume and retail volume across both urban and rural areas of the country. Under the new schedule, the import wholesale price for LPG has been set at four dollars and twelve cents per gallon across all districts, including Belize, Cayo, Orange Walk, Corozal, Stann Creek, and Toledo. For retail sales in urban areas, consumers will now pay one dollar and thirty-one cents per pound, or five dollars and seventy-two cents per gallon. These prices apply in major municipalities including Belize City, Belmopan, San Ignacio, Benque Viejo del Carmen, Orange Walk Town, Corozal Town, Dangriga, and Punta Gorda. Meanwhile, residents in rural areas will see slightly higher prices, with LPG now controlled at one dollar and thirty-three cents per pound, or five dollars and eighty-two cents per gallon. Officials say the adjustment represents an increase of seven cents per gallon compared to the previous shipment, largely due to a rise in the acquisition price of LPG on the international market. The Supplies Control Unit also noted that the controlled prices are based on the standard LPG mixture of seventy percent propane and thirty percent butane, in accordance with Belize’s national specifications for liquefied petroleum gas. Authorities are encouraging members of the public seeking additional information on the pricing adjustments to contact the Supplies Control Unit within the Ministry of Agriculture.
