A newly released opinion survey conducted by political analyst Dr. Philip Castillo suggests that while Dangriga Area Representative Dr. Louis Zabaneh remains politically competitive, public support for him appears less solid than past election victories would indicate. The poll measured residents’ approval of Zabaneh’s performance across the Dangriga Constituency, which includes Dangriga Town along with Hope Creek and Sarawee. The results show 41.8 percent of respondents approve of the job he is doing, while 25.5 percent disapprove and a significant 32.7 percent say they are unsure. The findings indicate that a large share of voters have not firmly settled their opinion, meaning future elections could depend heavily on campaign performance and voter engagement rather than party loyalty alone. Some respondents cited difficulty accessing Dr. Zabaneh, as well as perceptions about uneven attention across communities, while data analysis showed stronger support in Hope Creek compared to Dangriga town and Sarawee. Our newsroom spoke with Dr. Zabaneh who says that he does not find the numbers alarming as there is some precedence from previous polls that Castillo conducted.
Analysts say the current numbers point to a constituency that is persuadable rather than firmly aligned. The survey suggests that although Zabaneh has previously won elections by wide margins, those victories may not fully reflect current sentiment, particularly since the opposition had internal conflicts going on at the time. Dr. Zabaneh rejected that narrative, concluding that his works in the division speak for itself.
The poll, which carries a margin of error of approximately seven percent, is not predictive of an election outcome but indicates the Dangriga seat could become competitive if undecided voters shift their position in future campaigns. We will have more from Dr. Zabaneh in tomorrow’s newscast.
