New Water System Expansion Inaugurated in Pomona Village

Residents of the Rodsville area in Pomona Village, Stann Creek District, saw the inauguration of a new water system expansion over the weekend.  The Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development and Local Government officially inaugurated the project on Saturday. The expansion includes a dedicated water source to support Pomona’s existing network, which has often come under pressure during the dry season.  Water Board Chairman Raymond Arnold says the investment will help address long-standing supply concerns, but he is urging residents to do their part by keeping up with their monthly water bills so the system can be maintained.

The inauguration was attended by Minister of Rural Transformation Oscar Requena, Minister of State Dr. Osmond Martinez, Stann Creek West Area Representative Rodwell Ferguson, CEO Valentino Shal, and members of the village council and water board.  Ferguson says the project is a major upliftment for families in the Rodsville community, who have had to contend with water shortages, particularly during the dry months.

The new system is powered by solar energy and includes a 40-thousand-litre ground-level reservoir, a pump house and a backup diesel generator. The ministry also provided pipes, fittings and other plumbing materials to help the local water board extend service to new homes and developing areas.
