Former senator, Warren Newby, says he’s ready to work to repair relationships which may have been damaged in the run up to Sunday’s selection exercise in North West Clarendon.

Newby was the unanimous winner of the contest held by the governing Jamaica Labour Party, JLP, to help determine who will represent the party at the next general election.

Newby comfortably beat his two rivals in all four divisions in North West Clarendon; Richies, Spauldings, Thompson Town and Frankfield.

He tallied 390 votes to finish ahead of attorney-at-law Corey Dunkley, who received 139 votes and educator, Dr. Clovis Nelson, who tallied eight votes.

Newby says he will now move to establish a reconciliation committee in the constituency.

The constituency is represented in parliament by the JLP’s Phillip Henriques. Henriques will not seek reelection.

The People’s National Party caretaker is the former member of parliament, Richard Azan.

Meanwhile, JLP general secretary, Dr. Horace Chang, says the party’s secretariat will recommend that Warren Newby be installed as the party’s candidate-in-waiting in North West Clarendon.

The recommendation will be made to the party’s central executive. The central executive is the JLP’s highest decision making body outside of its annual conference.
