British sprint star Zharnel Hughes says he’s confident of a podium place at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan later this year.
The 29-year-old Hughes opened his season with a fourth place finish in the men’s 60m at the Queen’s/Grace Jackson meet at the National Stadium at the weekend.
Hughes, the British record holder in both the 100 metres and 200 metres, says he used Saturday’s race in Kingston just as a blow out to get his season underway.
The Anguillan-born Hughes says he has two more 60m races this season before going back to his natural habitat of running the 100 metres, then he’ll switch focus to preparing for an assault on a Tokyo podium.
Hughes says while he wants to run fast times, the focus this year will be about winning medals irrespective of the times.
