Executive Director of the National Integrity Action, NIA, Professor Trevor Munroe, is calling for Justice Minister Delroy Chuck to be reprimanded if he refuses to withdraw his controversial comment that is seemingly in breach of the Integrity Commission Act.
Professor Munroe made the call on the Jamaicans for Justice, JFJ produced show, Let’s Talk Justice, on Nationwide90fm on Monday.
Shaloy Smikle reports.
The Justice Minister advised his colleague parliamentarians in the Lower House last week against disclosing the salaries of their spouses or children to the Integrity Commission.
The comment is a breach of the existing Integrity Commission Act.
Since then, the Opposition has called for his resignation.
But, Minister Delroy Chuck has rejected that call.
Speaking with Nationwide News over the weekend, he apologised for his phrasing of the comment, claiming it was misinterpreted.
But according to Professor Munroe, that explanation is not enough.
He’s calling for the Justice Minister to be reprimanded if he refuses to withdraw the comment.
Professor Munroe says given that corruption is being treated as an active threat to democracy, now is the time to comply with these provisions.
And Executive Director of JFJ, Mickel Jackson, says the silence from the government is deafening.
She’s urging the Minister to issue a clear apology.
