Nkrumie makes rare appearance at Last Chance Meet

ATHLETES GOT a final opportunity over the weekend to prepare for next week’s National Championships, as a large number turned up inside the National Stadium for the third All Comers JAAA Last Chance Meet, where there were some decent results.

World Relays representative Jodean Williams of SprinTec looked quite easy in topping her rivals in the women’s 100 metres, winning her heat in 11.27 seconds for the fastest time overall. Kemba Nelson of Elite Performance won her heat in 11.32 for second overall, while Ashanti Moore of SprinTec, who was second behind Williams, ended third overall in 11.39.

Bouwahjgie Nkrumie of Racers Track Club, the national junior record holder in the 100m, who has hardly raced since transitioning from high school to club level, was the best among the men. He won his heat in 10.31 in a negative wind of 1.1 metres per second to be the top performer.

Emmanuel Archibald (10.35), competing unattached, and Assanie Smith of Dynamic Speed Track Club (10.36), who were in the same heat, ended second and third overall.

Kerrica Hill of Elite Performance and Crystal Morrison of Titans International renewed their rivalry in the 100-metre hurdles.

In a very close contest, Hill edged her rival, winning in 12.96 seconds, with Morrison second in 13.04. Yanique Thompson of SprinTec, making a comeback after injury, was third in 13.34.

Intermediate hurdler Shiann Salmon of SprinTec, competing in the women’s 400 meres, was also involved in a close contest with Candice McLeod of Uptimum Performance. Salmon prevailed for the win in 52.68 seconds, as McLeod was second in 52.75, and Janielle Joseph of MVP Track Club third in 54.22.

There were personal bests for Edwin Allen’s duo Monique Stewart and Kevongaye Fowler in the 800m for junior females. Stewart clocked 2:06.00 for the win, while Fowler took second in 2:08.91, with Alikay Reynolds of Alphansus Davis third in 2:10.88.

In the field events, Samantha Hall of MVP won the women’s discus with a throw of 57.60 metres, ahead of Shadane Lawrence of Reckless Control (54.06). Shamoyea Morris of Edwin Allen was best among the juniors, winning with 51.09, ahead of Excelsior High’s Najhada Seymore, second with 48.32.

St Elizabeth Technical High School’s Chloe Palmer captured the long jump with 5.94 metres, the same distance achieved by Tri-Tonia Lowe of G. C. Foster College for second. Palmer then won the triple jump with a mark of 12.38 metres, ahead of Dejanea Bruce of Edwin Allen High, who was second with 12.32.

In a very close 400-mete hurdles, Assinie Wilson of Titans came out on top in 49.46 seconds, fiishing ahead of teammate Tyriece Hyman, second in 49.76, and Derrick Luke, competing unattached, third in 49.95.

Deandre Watkins of Elite Performance was best in the flat 400m, winning in 45.34 seconds, as Jevaughn Powell of Racers was second in 45.88, with Zandrian Barnes of SprinTec third in 48.09.

Tyler Mason of Elite Performance won the men’s 110-metre hurdles in 13.69 seconds, ahead of Dejour Russell, second in 13.73, while Christopher Taylor, representing Titans Track Club in his second competitive 200 metres since returning from a two-year suspension, won in 20.88.
