The job approval rating of Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness has hit its highest mark in more than two years. That’s according to the latest Nationwide/Bluedot polls, powered by Total Tools.
Forty-three per cent of Jamaicans now believe Dr. Holness has been doing a good job as prime minister. It’s the highest figure recorded since late 2022.
Ricardo Brooks has the details.
The Bluedot pollsters asked 1,618 registered voters between May 2 and 17 to rate the performance of Dr. Andrew Holness after nine years as prime minister.
They were asked to rate him on a scale of 0 to 10, with 0 being extremely poor, and 10 exceptional.
Forty-three per cent of respondents say Holness has been doing a good job. They rated him between 7 and 10. Thirty-five per cent say Holness has been average at his job. They give him a rating of between 4 and 6.
Twenty-two per cent say the prime minister has been poor at the job. Those respondents rate him between 0 and 3.
It should be noted that Holness’ positive job approval rating has rebounded by 11 points from the low of 32 per cent recorded in 2023.
Holness is also enjoying consensus across genders, with 43 per cent of both men and women rating his job performance as good. That’s up three points for men compared to three months ago.
There’s also been a marginal decline in the men and women who say Holness has been average or poor at his job. The decline is just outside the poll’s margin of error of +/- 2.3 per cent.
When age is considered, it is the middle-aged and older voters who are giving Holness his best job approval ratings.
Nearly 50 per cent of voters 55-to-64 years old say Holness has been doing a good job. Twenty-five per cent of that age group disagrees. They say he has been a poor prime minister.
It’s a similar story with voters 45-54. Twenty-four per cent of them say Holness has been poor at the job, while 46 per cent of them say he has been good.
Interestingly, voters 18-24 were most likely to rate Holness’s job performance as average, with 44-percent of them saying the man they call “BroGad” has been an average prime minister. Eighteen per cent of them say he has been poor at it.
The time for choosing draws nigh. Jamaicans across the country are no doubt asking themselves the question, has Holness been good, average or poor as Prime Minister?
They’ll soon get to render a formal verdict. It won’t be long now.
