NNN/Bluedot Poll: Jamaicans Split on 3rd Term for Holness Administration

2 days ago 3

Jamaicans are split down the middle on whether the Andrew Holness led government deserves a third term in office.

That’s according to the latest Nationwide/Bluedot polls, powered by Total Tools.

Fifty-point-three per cent of Jamaicans say the administration does not deserve a third term, while 49.7 per cent say Holness and his team should be returned to office.

George Davis reports.

The difference between those who say the Holness administration deserves the third term and those who say it doesn’t is wafer thin.

How thin? Zero-point-six percentage points.

It’s well within the poll’s margin of error of plus or minus 2.3 per cent. It means the country is evenly divided on the critical question.

But for Labourites claiming the third term is loading, these numbers have to be too close for comfort.

Most concerning for the Labourites is the fact that there’s been a slight decline in the number of voters who believe the Holness administration deserves a third term.

That number has fallen from 50.1 per cent in February to 49.7 per cent in May. It’s true, that’s a fall off of just 0.4 per cent. That’s within the margin of error.

But it’s not the direction Labourites want to see the numbers, headed into an election.

Forty-nine-point-nine per cent of voters said no to the prospect of a third term three months ago. That’s moved up slightly to 50.3 per cent in May.

When gender is considered, 50 per cent of women say no to a third term, while 49 per cent of men say no. The numbers suggest it’s shaping up to be a tight race.

The pollsters say that not everyone who believes or does not believe the government deserves a third term intends to vote.

The question is, how does that affect the party standings?

The Nationwide/Bluedot poll powered by Total Tools was conducted between May 2 and 17. It sampled 1,618 registered voters across all 14 parishes.
