NNN/Bluedot Poll: Older Voters say Golding Suited to Lead PNP

2 months ago 12

Older voters say Mark Golding is well suited to the job of leading the Opposition People’s National Party, PNP.

That’s according to the latest Nationwide/Bluedot polls, powered by Total Tools.

The finding comes as Golding consolidates his support among a key voting demographic heading into this year’s general election.

The PNP president has been at the helm of the 87-year-old party for nearly five years. During that time, he says he’s been keen on healing the wounds and putting it on a path to state power.

When the Bluedot pollsters asked 1,618 registered voters to rate how well suited Golding was for the job of leading the PNP, 11 per cent feel Golding is extremely well suited for his job, while 17 per cent say he’s poorly suited to it.

But when age is considered, a different picture emerges. Those over 55 years old had the most positive response. A combined total of 43 per cent of voters over the age of 55, say Golding is extremely well suited for his job.

The combined total of the same age cohort who disagreed was 42 per cent. The difference between the two assessments is just inside the poll’s margin of error of plus or minus 2.3 per cent.

A combined 50 per cent of voters over 55, believe Golding is highly suited for his job. That combined number plunges to 29 per cent among voters 18-to-24.

This cohort was most likely to see Golding as an average leader. The single largest score from younger voters was an average of five. Twenty-eight per cent of them gave him that grade.

The pollsters say this suggests neutrality from younger voters on the question of Golding’s suitability.

The opposition leader also continues to gain support from male voters 28 per cent of them indicating he was highly suited for the job. Fourteen per cent say he is extremely well suited; 18 per cent say average, while 14 per cent say he was poorly suited for the task.

Women were more cautious about Golding. Only 8 per cent of them gave him top marks. Twenty per cent of them say he’s average, while 19 per cent say he is poorly suited.

And in a sign Golding has consolidated PNP support, 21 per cent of comrades gave their leader top marks. Another 52 per cent say he’s highly suited for the job.

The labourites predictably disagree, with 35 per cent of them saying Golding is poorly suited. Only 3 per cent felt otherwise.

The Nationwide/Bluedot poll, powered by Total Tools was conducted between May 2 and 17.
