2 months ago 11

Public trust in the Andrew Holness led government has hit its highest mark in two years.

That’s according to the latest Nationwide/Bluedot polls powered by Total Tools.

George Davis reports.

When the Bluedot pollsters asked 1,618 people if they trusted or distrusted the Holness government, 46 per cent say the trust them.

Forty-three per cent expressed distrust.

The 46 per cent expressing trust is the highest level recorded in the Bluedot polls since 2023.

The government has gained 12 points in the trust column over the last two years, moving from 34 per cent to 46 per cent.

At the same time, distrust in the administration has fallen from a high of 57 per cent two years ago, to 43 per cent in these polls. That’s a 14 point dip in the distrust column.

Eleven per cent of respondents were unsure. That’s grown marginally from the 9 per cent who were also expressing uncertainty two years ago.

When it comes to trust and gender, the Holness government has fallen marginally with women over the last three months, dipping from 46 per cent in February to 44 per cent in May.

At the same time, trust with men inched up over the same period, moving from 45 per cent in February to 48 per cent in May.

The distrust numbers across both genders have held relatively steady in the three month period, showing no significant movement outside the margin of error of 2.3 per cent.

So, too, the numbers of Jamaicans who say they are unsure.

When age is considered, the government’s highest levels of trust are with voters over 65-years-old, with 53 per cent of this cohort indicating they trust Holness’ government.

This is up five points from the 48 per cent recorded three months ago. Distrust in this cohort stands at 35 per cent.

Voters 55-to-64 expressed the next highest level of trust in the government, standing at 52 per cent. This cohort registered distrust of 39 per cent in the government.

Voters 18-to-24 registered 47 per cent trust, while distrust stood at 39 per cent.

Voters 35-to-44 were least likely to trust the government, registering distrust at 47 per cent while their trust stood at 42 per cent.

It should be noted that distrust in the government has fallen among all age groups, albeit marginally.

The Nationwide Bluedot polls were conducted between May 2 and 17.
