NTUCB Celebrates 60 Years of Defending Belizean Workers

The National Trade Union Congress of Belize (NTUCB) marked sixty years of defending workers’ rights with an anniversary celebration last night at the Inspiration Center in Belize City.  The event brought together union members, labour leaders and supporters to reflect on the NTUCB’s six decades of service, solidarity and advocacy. Since its establishment, the umbrella organization has championed fair wages, improved working conditions, social justice and stronger protections for Belizean workers.  NTUCB President Ella Waight says the anniversary provided an opportunity to honour the unionists who helped build Belize’s labour movement while renewing the organization’s commitment to present and future workers.

A major highlight of the celebration was the first-ever screening of an NTUCB documentary. The production traces the organization’s history, including the struggles it has faced, the victories it has achieved and the contributions of the men and women who helped shape the labour movement.  The milestone also served as a reminder of the NTUCB’s continuing role in national affairs and its responsibility to speak out on issues affecting employees across the country. As it enters its seventh decade, the organization says it intends to continue advocating for fairness, dignity and better opportunities for Belize’s working people.
