World Championships 4x400-metre silver medallist Dejanea Oakley was in fine form in the opening race of her indoor season at the Clemson Indoor Invitational on Saturday.
Competing for the University of Georgia, Oakley sped to a personal-best 35.94 seconds to win the women’s 300 metres. Her teammate, Shaquane Foote, formerly of Petersfield High, took the runner-up spot in 36.50.
It was a quinella for Jamaican athletes in the women’s 60 metres hurdles final. Veteran Danielle Williams, representing Adidas, captured the event in 7.94 seconds, ahead of former Hydel High athlete Oneika Wilson of Clemson University, who was second in 8.04.
In the men’s 60 metres, in a very close finish, Devonte Howell of the University of Tennessee won the event in 6.49 seconds, the same time credited to his teammate Traunard Foldson, with T’Mars McCallum making it a podium finish for Tennessee with a third-place finish in 6.59 seconds.
