Three international and local observer groups have confirmed their participation in monitoring the September 3 general election.

That’s according to a statement from the Electoral Office of Jamaica, EOJ on Wednesday.

The missions are from the Caribbean Community, CARICOM, the Organization of American States, OAS, and Citizens Action for Free and Fair Elections, CAFFE.

The OAS mission will be led by former Prime Minister of St. Lucia, Dr. Kenny Anthony.

In the meantime, the EOJ has commenced printing ballot papers, following the close of nominations on Monday, August 18.

The JLP and PNP each nominated a slate of 63 candidates.

The Jamaica Progressive Party, JPP, nominated 43 candidates, while the United Independents’ Congress put forward seven.

Eight independents were also nominated.

The EOJ also reported that six candidates have been nominated for by-elections in Chancery Hall, Olympic Gardens, and Denham Town.

It says preparations are advancing with the printing of voters’ lists, the deployment of Election Day workers, and the distribution of supplies.

Voting for members of the Special Services, including Election Day workers, the police, and the military, will take place on Friday, August 29, ahead of the national polls.
