Opposition Critical of PM’s Inspection of Installation of Sabina Park Lights

Meanwhile, Opposition Spokesman on Sports, Wavell Hinds, says the Prime Minister’s visit to inspect the installation of a new lighting infrastructure at Sabina Park is a poor attempt by the government to compensate for Jamaica missing out on the ICC T20 World Cup.

The lighting at Sabina Park is being installed at a cost of approximately $75 million.

The government says the move forms part of its efforts to revitalise cricket in Jamaica. The upgraded lighting system, once fully installed, will allow Sabina Park to host both day and night matches, including international fixtures.

Mr. Hinds says while any investment in sports is welcomed, the upgrade is a case of too little too late.
