Yesterday, Orange walk police arrested and charged 19-year-old Jessie Garbutt with three counts of rape and kidnapping of a young woman. Police rescued the woman, the ex-girlfriend of Garbutt who he kept hostage for two days and raped repeatedly when she tried to leave his home after she visited him. The incident occurred between October 22 and 24. Assistant Superintendent Smith tells us more.

Stacy Smith, Assistant Superintendent of Police: “The arrest of Mr. Garbutt follows a report made by a female who stated that she would have visited Mr. Garbutt’s residence and upon seeking to leave certain demands were made of her. What preceded police’s arrival at that location was a report of a missing person being made by the common law husband of the particular female and upon checking possible locations, the victim in this instance was located. And she would have indicated certain things to the police at that time and having recorded a statement from her and provided it to the office of the DPP for directive, the officers were directed to levy the charges that were levied.”
