Several Belize cases are coming up before the Caribbean Court of Justice, with an appeal in the Oscar Selgado case and judgments in two Belize Tourism Board disputes scheduled for this week. On Wednesday, October 7, the court will hear the Crown’s appeal in the Selgado matter where the prosecution is challenging the Court of Appeal’s decision to overturn the attorney’s conviction for abetment of murder and enter an acquittal. Selgado had been sentenced to ten years in prison. The case involved allegations that he solicited a man to kill a former client who had complained about him to the General Legal Council. The Court of Appeal overturned the conviction in December 2025, finding that a statement from a witness who did not testify should not have been admitted. The DPP is challenging that ruling. On Thursday, October 8, the CCJ will deliver judgments in the Belize Tourism Board’s cases against Misty Michael and Karen Bevans. Both disputes concern employment contracts and wrongful termination. Lower courts ruled in favour of the former executives, while the BTB argues that the contracts lacked proper board approval. Later in the day, the court is scheduled to deliver judgment in Ewart Leroy Robateau versus Allen Robateau. That dispute involves two brothers and possession of a family property in Belize City. Also on the calendar is an application by businessman Michael Feinstein against the Minister of Natural Resources, Petroleum and Mining and others. It is set for October 27. The underlying litigation concerns the Government’s compulsory acquisition of the twenty-three-point-four-acre Stake Bank extension. Further ahead, an appeal and cross-appeal involving three minors, listed under the initials C, G and L, is scheduled for December 16. The matter concerns abduction and custody rights.
