Paulwell Tells Vaz to De-politicise Push For Cheaper Energy

3 months ago 15

Opposition Spokesman on Energy, Phillip Paulwell, is blasting his government counterpart for what he describes as a desperate attempt to politicise the fate of the country’s electricity license.

Speaking at a JLP meeting on Sunday, Minister Daryl Vaz, urged Jamaicans to seriously consider who they’d want to renegotiate the next licence with an energy company.

But Mr. Paulwell is questioning why high electricity costs are being used as an election tool when the government had nine years to address them.

The Holness administration has indicated that it will not renew the Jamaica Public Service Company, JPS’s, all-island licence under the existing terms.

The license is set to expire on July 8, 2027.

Minister Vaz cited that the government is open to other negotiations that will better serve Jamaicans.

But Paulwell says the government is simply trying to shift the blame.

He’s urging the JLP to stop politicizing the national issue of high electricity costs.
