The Planning Institute of Jamaica, PIOJ, says there’s been no major impact from the ongoing tariff wars between the United States and its main trading partners.
But, PIOJ Director General, Dr. Wayne Henry, says uncertainty remains the watch word for the year.
The Trump Administration is increasingly using the threat of tariffs as a bargaining chip to secure preferential trade agreements.
This has led to back and forth tariff escalations over the past few months between main trading partners such as Canada, India and China.
The trade wars have reduced global expectations for growth due to the levels of uncertainty.
But, Deputy Director General of the PIOJ, James Stewart, says the tariff standoff has not significantly impacted the local economy.
