Police are investigating a violent altercation in Placencia Village, Stann Creek District, that left one man hospitalized and several others injured following a dispute that escalated late last night. Just after six o’clock, officers responded to information of a stabbing incident in the “Other Side” area of Placencia. When they arrived at the location, police found 41-year-old David Dorian Jones, a bartender of Placencia Village, on a boat vessel unconscious and experiencing difficulty breathing. Initial investigations indicate that the incident began as a domestic dispute involving 23-year-old Kelly Ical and her common-law partner, 29-year-old Devaney Tillet, both of Sunset Pointe Road. Police say the argument reportedly stemmed from accusations of infidelity involving another woman from Belize City. Authorities say Ical allegedly confronted the other woman, broke a glass bottle over her head, causing injuries to the woman’s head and face. A struggle followed, during which the other woman reportedly fell into a pool. Investigators say Tillet then allegedly assaulted his spouse, punching and kicking her multiple times. It was at this point that Jones, the bartender, intervened. Police report that Jones used a conch shell to strike Tillet, resulting in injuries to Tillet’s face and forehead. The situation further escalated when Jones and Tillet reportedly ended up in a nearby lagoon during a struggle. Police say Tillet allegedly held Jones underwater, causing him to ingest water and experience severe breathing distress. Bystanders intervened and were able to separate the individuals and de-escalate the situation. All parties involved were taken to the Placencia Polyclinic for treatment. However, due to the severity of his condition, Jones was later transported to the Southern Regional Hospital in Dangriga, where he was treated for breathing complications and reportedly coughing blood. A police press brief is scheduled for this afternoon where more information will be shared.
