Prime Minister John Briceño has assured Belizeans that tackling crime remains a government priority while he attends the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Antigua and Barbuda. In a prerecorded message, Briceño said he remains engaged with the response to violence at home. The Prime Minister said he held a telephone discussion with Minister Michel Chebat about a multipronged approach to addressing crime. The proposals will be taken to Cabinet for consideration and approval.
The message comes as police continue operations under the State of Public Emergency. Briceño’s assurance signals that the government’s response remains an immediate concern, with further measures now awaiting Cabinet’s green light.
