Prime Minister John Briceño is out of the country, but there has been no official announcement from the Government detailing the purpose or duration of his travel. Photographs obtained show the Prime Minister attending Sunday’s FIFA World Cup final at the New York/New Jersey Stadium, where he was seen wearing an Argentina jersey. Love News understands that the trip to the World Cup final was gifted to the Prime Minister in celebration of his birthday, which was observed on Friday, July 17. The Prime Minister’s overseas visit, however, is reportedly not limited to the sporting event. We understand that he is expected to travel to Washington, D.C., for a formal meeting with United States Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau. Up to news time, no official public statement had been issued by the Office of the Prime Minister concerning the trip. It therefore remains unclear when the Prime Minister departed Belize, when he is expected to return, and which Cabinet minister has been designated to act as Prime Minister during his absence.
