PM Briceño Confident PUP Can Win All Nine Municipalities

Prime Minister John Briceño says the People’s United Party remains confident that it can retain control of eight and gain the ninth municipality when Belizeans go to the polls in March 2027.  Speaking to the media, Briceño acknowledged that municipal elections are never without challenges and that the party still has hurdles to overcome in several areas. However, he says the PUP is preparing its candidates and campaign machinery early, with the aim of defending the municipalities it currently holds.  He says the party is not taking any race for granted, but believes its record in government, along with the work being done by municipal councils across the country, will give voters reason to support the PUP once again.

John Briceño, Prime Minister of Belize: “I am now down playing this it is a serious blow but I do believe that we will be able to win the municipal elections because our municipalities, our councils have delivered for the people. We have good people running for the People’s United Party. Belize City you have two dynamic, outstanding young men who have offered themselves to represent us in the next municipal elections. So do believe we’re going to win. I do believe that people when it comes to the council they’re going to see the work that they have done and most of them deserve, well all of them that are going to run for the PUP deserve another chance to continue serving the people.”

Municipal elections are due in March 2027, when voters will elect mayors and councilors in Belize City, Belmopan, and the seven town councils./
