PM Briceño Meets Unions, Sets Quarterly Talks for 2026

Prime Minister John Briceño today met with representatives of Belize’s labour unions in a working session aimed at strengthening dialogue and cooperation between government and organized labour.  In a statement following the meeting, the Prime Minister said discussions focused on issues of concern to union leaders, while also establishing a framework for quarterly meetings throughout 2026. The planned engagements are intended to ensure continued communication and a structured approach to addressing labour-related matters.  Briceño acknowledged that government and unions may not always agree on every issue but emphasized the importance of maintaining open dialogue and a partnership-based approach. He noted that progress depends on balancing workers’ concerns with what he described as fair and realistic expectations, in order to achieve outcomes that benefit both employees and the wider economy.  Labour representatives welcomed the opportunity for direct engagement, while noting that continued follow-through on agreed discussions will be key as talks move forward. The government says the quarterly meetings are part of its broader effort to promote consultation, collaboration, and industrial harmony.
