As the House debated several matters in today’s House Meeting, Prime Minister John Briceno did give the Leader of the Opposition a scolding in the debate over the CDB Loan Motion. He told Tracy Panton that her political rhetoric to protect the Belizean people is hypocritical. The PM made reference to the private contracting of the Boledo when Panton was the Minister of State under the Barrow Administration.

John Briceño, Prime Minister: “I still can’t understand the hypocrisy of the other side of the opposition. They kept quiet when the other government spent $8 million on a street, one road at Faber’s Road. $8 million of roadway, the road is wavy they can’t even make it flat. When a vehicle parks no other vehicles pass, it’s like a one way vehicle and yet you come and talk and criticize. What did the member said from— what did the she also say about that she wants to be here to protect the Belizean people? Where was she, when they were giving the Boledo to a UDP crony ? I never heard her once come to the house or speak to the media and say we cannot allow the government to give the Boledo to a UDP crony. And now this UDP crony doesn’t have to work for the rest of his life you know ? Because at what we’re looking at right now that person probably made about $150 million dollars in profits in ten years. $150 million dollars given by her, she was under the Ministry of State you know ? $150 million dollars was given to one person in ten years and then you come to this honorable house and tell us that you want to protect the Belizean people ? This is the kind of hypocrisy that gets to us. Not once had she come to this house and said you know what I apologize to the Belizean people I should have spoken up, I should have defended you and I didn’t.”
