Prime Minister John Briceño delivered his 2026 State of the Nation Address today, declaring that Belize remains economically stable and continues to record strong growth despite pressures on agriculture, tourism and household spending. In the address, the Prime Minister reviewed the Government’s performance and announced new measures involving wages, electricity, public transportation and energy security. We begin with the wider economy. Prime Minister John Briceño says Belize’s economy continues to perform above historical averages.

John Briceño, Prime Minister of Belize: “At the macro level, Belize is doing exceptionally well. Year-on-year economic growth continues apace at levels more often than not higher than historical averages. The Statistical Institute of Belize’s most recent quarterly report showed growth at 5.1%. Belizeans are working in record numbers with an official countrywide employment rate of 98%. Government stimulus spending is plentiful. In this fiscal year $324 million of capital investments will be dispersed variously in critical infrastructure, such as major highway upgrades, healthcare programs, including a final expansion of the National Health Insurance in the Cayo district, education at all levels, and of course, citizen protection.”
