Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness has described the financial meltdown of the 1990s under former Prime Minister P.J. Patterson, as a home grown crisis caused by the People’s National Party.

He made the declaration while making his contribution to the Budget Debate in the House of Representatives on Thursday.

Chevon Campbell has that story.

For the 10th time as Prime Minister, Dr. Holness took to his feet in the House of Representatives for a Budget Debate.

This time, he was determined to set the record straight on the management of the country’s economy since independence 62 years ago.

In seeking to explain to the Jamaican people the source of what he described as disinvestment in the country’s infrastructure and social services, Dr. Holness took particular aim at the FINSAC era.

According to the Prime Minister, the choices of the then PJ Patterson administration left Jamaica struggling with a massive debt burden that consumed a significant portion of the country’s budget.

According to Holness, the PNP is the root of Jamaica’s current problems.
