PM must enforce special operations law in PNM-controlled constituencies

In my capacity as president of the Criminal Bar Association, I have been bombarded with numerous vexatious comments and inquiries as per the Hon Prime Minister, Kamla Persad-Bissessar SC’s invidious statement that the Special Operations Bill law would not apply to People’s National Movement-controlled constituencies because the Opposition is insisting it would turn the country into a “police state.”

Former PNM national security minister Marvin Gonzales told the nation that the Special Operations Act is racist law and must be rejected. Other Opposition MPs also raised concerns about provisions relating to searches, detention, curfews and other powers contained in the proposed legislation.

It is within the context of the PNM Parliamentary representatives’ vicious rejection of the implementation of the Special Operations provisions that the Prime Minister stated in a social media post that the Government would effectively exclude PNM-controlled constituencies and local government districts from implementing the SO law if their representatives are not in support of the measure.

She stated, “I will only authorise special operations in the 26 UNC-held constituencies, 70 UNC-held local government electoral districts and in the two TPP-held constituencies after consultation with Chief Secretary Farley Augustine.”

And in relation to the PM’s social media post, Laventille West MP Kareem Marcelle stated that her statement that Government will enforce the Special Operations legislation in UNC-controlled areas is “irresponsible” and an attack on citizens’ rights. He rightly pointed out that the Prime Minister had a duty and responsibility to represent all citizens, regardless of their political affiliation.

I am in total agreement with MP Marcelle on this score. PM Persad-Bissessar is quite aware that she has been elected PM of the country and heads a Cabinet which must govern in the interest of all citizens, regardless of whatever criticism is thrown at her. And I am convinced, in the fullness of time, she would put aside her impetuous and injudicious statement of only assisting the UNC constituencies on account of the fact that the PNM, MPs, councillors and supporters are clearly against the Special Operations Bill. (She stated).

It is my considered opinion that not all persons in the PNM representatives’ constituencies clearly prefer to be controlled by violent criminal gangs and the local drug mafia instead of being protected by law enforcement, as stated by the PM in her social media post.

Obviously, Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar is fed up, frustrated and angry with the Opposition MPs for their stand on this piece of legislation, which would assist in taking the country from the criminals. It is good law in an effort to re-establish peace and order in Trinidad and Tobago.

It is obvious that the Prime Minister is still hurting from racist comments made against her—thus her statement, “The predictable comical manufactured drama coming from the PNM and their supporters is that the stinking racist jamette c****e prime minister is going to send the police and army to terrorise their supporters in their hardcore PNM constituencies. It’s the usual tired race and hate gritting that we’ve all grown accustomed to.”

I call upon the Hon Prime Minister to get a hold of herself and not to fall into the trap of the racist degenerates in the country. You enjoy the position of first amongst equals and you possess the status of a world leader. Do not allow the sycophants in the UNC to encourage or give you basket which would lower or demean your status.

I say to you that history would eventually acknowledge that you were a great prime minister of our country, if not the greatest. There is no need to grapple in the gutter with the racists of this country. You have chosen and head the most multiracial political cabinet to govern this country.

I know you are not an ordinary human being. Remember, I once told you face to face that you are the reincarnation of Durga. Yes, cut off the heads of your political enemies (metaphorically speaking) make a mala of same, but do it quietly. Stop reinforcing your political opponents’ racist statement, “stinking racist jamette c****e.” I love you, and there is no other citizen in this country who would love and respect you more than I do—of course, as Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago.
