Prime Minister and UNC political leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar has dismissed suggestions that taxpayers' money was used to fund the party's Christmas celebrations.

She also dismissed claims her government is engaging in an extravagant manner and being insenstive towards ordinary citizens. She made these comments at a UNC Christmas Supper at the Diplomatic Centre, St Ann's on December 18.

"Not one cent of government money has been spent on this Christmas Supper." Persad-Bissessar asked her audience if they knew where the money to fund the supper came from.

"That dinner we had in Couva (on December 13)...the big Christmas dinner. Everybody who paid for your ticket. That is your ticket money (so) you are getting a free dinner here tonight."

Persad-Bissessar apologised to anyone who thought either she or the UNC had forgotten about them since they won the April 28 general election.

"The work was intense and the time was so short." Persad-Bissessar assured citizens, "We will never ever forget you."
