PM Says Gov’t Deserves Credit for Crime Reduction

Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness is hitting back at critics who say the government deserves no credit for the reduction in murders and overall decline in major crimes.

He was speaking at a Jamaica Labour Party workers appreciation ceremony in West Rural St Andrew last Friday.

The country has recorded a 44 per cent reduction in murders. Up to June 14, 303 homicides were recorded in the country. That’s -40 fewer than the corresponding period last year.

The prime minister says the country’s security apparatus is much stronger.

And the prime Mminister is sending a strong message to criminals who believe they can evade the law by seeking safe haven outside the country.

He says the government will not allow gangs and criminals to be stronger than the state.
